ESPN Espn2 Extreme Games

ESPN Espn2 Extreme Games is a video game in the racing / driving genre developed by Sony Interactive Studios America and published by Psygnosis Limited originally released in 1996. It is currently playable on DOS.

ESPN Extreme Games allows the player to access three game modes: Exhibition, New Season or continuation of a season. The exhibition mode helps the player get to know the tracks and equipment, as well as become familiar with the controls. New Season offers the player the opportunity to race against sixteen other competitors on any of the four racing machines, competing for season points as well as money to upgrade equipment.

There is a choice between roller skates, a luge (basically a seated skateboard), a mountain bike and the skateboard. The player can also determine which character he or she wants to compete with, as each has a unique skill on one of the devices. For example, one may be the best at skateboarding, but be bad at biking, so there is no point in choosing the bike with him. In a season, the player competes in the five locations, three times, twelve times in total, and each time the obstacles become more difficult to avoid, as well as the other racers become faster and more agile.

The circuits are: Italy - Country roads descending into an urban area; Lake Tahoe - Winding roads and strategically placed haystacks;South America - Lots of caves and thin jungle trails; San Francisco - Hundreds of obstacles and hills; Utah - Falling rocks, secret routes and some hungry looking alligators.

Sony's ESPN license had expired by the time the Greatest Hits version of the game was released in 1998, so 1Xtreme was retitled 1Xtreme (a sequel called 2Xtreme had been released in 1997) and all ESPN logos and videos were removed from the version.
