Greatest Heavyweights

Greatest Heavyweights is a video game in the sports genre developed by Acme Interactive, Inc. and published by SEGA of America, Inc. originally released in 1993. It is currently playable on Genesis.

Greatest Heavyweights is a boxing game featuring former heavyweight champions Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Floyd Patterson, Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey. The game simulates their likeness and real fighting style.

The game is an enhanced version of Evander Holyfield's 'Real Deal' Boxing, which is also played in a pseudo-3D side view with movement around the ring handled by scrolling the background and moving the ropes. This time, a 2.5D camera is displayed at the top of the screen.

There are three game modes:Exhibition: one or two players can fight a single match.
Tournament: a player chooses from the eight available heavyweight champions in an eight-man tournament against the remaining seven.
Career: a player creates a character who starts as 30th in the rankings, fighting his way up against fictional characters. During character creation, players can choose the fighter's skin color (which now includes some unnatural colors, such as green and blue), trunk and hair, haircut, body size and emphasis on stats (power, speed and stamina). Between fights, the career mode offers several exercises for the fighter to improve his stats. After reaching 1 in the rankings, the player will be challenged by each of the eight great heavyweight champions.During fights, in addition to an energy bar, boxers have a damage meter on their head and torso. These meters are images of their head and torso, which gradually turn gray, from top to bottom, as they are hit. If one of these gauges turns completely gray, it will start flashing, warning that if the fighter receives any more hits in that area, he will lose the fight by TKO. Being knocked down three times in one round also leads to a TKO. During breaks in the rounds, fighters regain strength when the girl with the round sign passes by their sides.

Fighters can perform three types of strikes: jabs, hooks and uppers, which can be aimed at the opponent's head or torso. Wrestlers can also taunt their opponents. Each of the heavyweight champions has his own set of personal taunts. If for some reason the wrestlers avoid fighting, the spectators will start whistling at them. To keep the spectators happy, the fighters must keep hitting each other regularly.

The game is noticeably faster than Evander Holyfield, and the character animation is more detailed. A replay function is included, and the fights are announced by the voice of Michael Buffer.
