Guzzle

Guzzle is a video game in the strategy genre developed by BSX International and published by BSX International originally released in 1989. It is currently playable on DOS.

Guzzle is an entertaining mix of drinking games and trivia for 2 to 4 players.

The game is intended to be an 'electronic companion' when you get together with a few friends for a drinking competition. Basically, each player (or, more appropriately, 'drinker' in this case) takes turns rolling a die on a Monopoly-style board. The player's token may land in one of the following possibilities A DRINK box (e. g. , '2 DRINKS'), in which case he or she must Guzzle the specified number of drinks. A GIVE box (e. g. , 'GIVE 3'), in which case you must choose a victim, and make Guzzle the specified number of drinks. DETOX MANSION or GOTO DETOX MANSION, in which case you are trapped (not unlike 'GO TO JAIL' in Monopoly), and the only way to escape is to roll a 3 or a 6. Guzzle, in which case all players not in DETOX MANSION must have a drink. THROW AGAIN, which is self-explanatory. GO, in which case nothing happens and it goes to the next player. ? in which case the player must answer a multiple choice trivia question. If you get it right, you have to give a drink to the victim. But if you get it wrong, you have to take a drink. The fun of Guzzle, like all drinking games, lies in seeing who will be the last person to get drunk. But this game also requires knowledge: it won't help your luck if you don't remember episodes of Star Trek, songs from the 1970s, or Stanley Kubrick movies. The winner, as the manual ironically describes, is determined as follows: 'How do you win? Well, if by the time any player gets grossed out and chooses to EXIT, you're still awake and in control of your limbs, congratulations: you've won. But if the next day you wake up with puke all over your pants and spend the evening asking people, 'Hey, what asshole puked on me?' then you're a loser. At the end of the game, a score sheet appears with each player's drink total. It's a bit like golf: the lowest score wins. Of course, as with all drinking games, the losers get all the fun'. So if you can get a few beer friends together, check out this neat little game that makes a great party companion.

Note: Like other BSX games I've reviewed, this one is marketed as 'shareware', but since the registered version is identical to the shareware (except for the absence of the 'warning screen'), I've labeled it as freeware here.
