Description Hexsider
One of the most unique puzzle games ever created, Hexsider is a fun and very challenging mix of robot programming and chess.
The game, in the designer's own words '. . is an adventure/puzzle game in which the player manages robots in a large maze. In the 21st century, a new batch of robots called Hexsiders perform man's most dangerous operations. However, a new danger threatens humanity today. At the defense headquarters, a gang of terrorist robots has destroyed the computer that maintains the security status. The protective shields remain activated and the internal Hexsiders are without orders. The player must drive 6 radio-commanded Hexsiders into the heart of the treacherous maze and replace the faulty module'.
Sounds easy enough, right? Well, it isn't. Although the game has a demo mode and online help, it's not an easy game to understand. There are many modules you can use, each with different options. Not to mention the different types of doors, mines, electromagnets and other elements in the room that you have to interact with. On top of all that, you have to think in three dimensions: robots with more modules can't pass through short doors, for example. And, of course, the whole map is a gigantic maze, and you can easily get lost.
One of the best features of the game is that you can view the action in 3D isometric mode at any time, although you can't move in this mode. The 3D view is indispensable, and you will refer to it many times during the game. In the end, the intense complexity of Hexsider makes the game more frustrating than fun, especially after you're halfway through the map. The more you play, the more you realize why the chess mantra 'easy to learn, hard to master' could make Hexsider so much more fun.
As it stands, the game will appeal only to puzzle experts who can handle complicated rules, or anyone who enjoys esoteric puzzle games. Recommended, with some reservations.
