Homeworld: Cataclysm

Homeworld: Cataclysm is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Barking Dog Studios, Ltd. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc. originally released in 2000. It is currently playable on Windows.

Homeworld: Cataclysm is a stand-alone expansion for the real-time strategy game Homeworld.

It includes a new race called 'The Beast', a kind of alien biomechanical parasite that 'converts' any other units that come near such 'infected' Beast units.

There are also new units available, such as the Mimic, a fighter that mimics other units and objects (even as asteroids) almost perfectly; a Ramming Frigate, which rammed itself against hostile ships, and many more new units as well.

Base management has become more complex: if one wants to research new classes of ships, one must build a Research Laboratory to do so. If one wants to research a new weapon technology, one must build yet another Laboratory. If the player wants to expand his fleet, he must build quarters for his pilots to support them. All of these add-ons are attached to the 'mothership' (which in this game is actually a large mining ship). The design of the missions and scenarios are also new and very different from Homeworld. The user control interface has also been improved.

Multiplayer games are available over a local network (or virtual LAN), as general Internet games were hosted on the now defunct WON. net network.

Homeworld: Cataclysm is available at a reduced price on the following websites and is no longer abandonware.
