Hybrid

Hybrid is a video game in the action genre developed by Starlight Software and published by Ariolasoft UK originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC.

Aliens from Venus have landed on Earth to live, but they have become more powerful, so they have been imprisoned to prevent them from using their power for evil. The prison was not built to hold them, but to prevent people and aliens from entering to attempt a rescue mission. The prison is starting to have trouble holding them, so the aliens must be destroyed. The only way to do this is to send in a team of droids. The prison is full of other creatures and defenses, all set up to prevent anyone from getting in, including cannons, mines, electrical wires and many types of creatures.

There are three types of droids, the brain, the robot and the xylon, each with different powers and abilities, such as bridge lighting, high firepower and teleportation. Once the droids arrive together at a certain cell in the complex they merge and become a 'Hybrid' where they are transported to an alien's cell to destroy it. Once the alien is destroyed, they are transported back to the complex and three other aliens must be found and destroyed to save Earth.

The game is viewed from above and the Amstrad and Spectrum versions are sliding screen while the C64 version is a scrolling game. The joystick or keyboard is used to control the droids and to switch between them.
