Description InterState: The Game

Interstate is a card game based on Mille Bornes. It is played as a one-player game, but is essentially a two-player game, with the second player controlled by the computer. Each player has a hand of seven cards. Taking turns, they play a card or discard from it, and then draw another card in its place, until they run out of cards in their hand. The object of the game is to run 1000 miles before your opponent. Cards are marked with the distance you can play (50 miles, 25 miles, 100 miles, etc. ) and you must make sure the total is exactly 1000. However, to drive any distance, you must first play the 'Go' card to get going. Your opponent may play a 'Stop' card, and you must play another 'Go' card to continue. For example, if they play the 'Nail in the Wheel' card, you must play the 'Spare Wheel' card to continue. There are also safety cards that can save you from certain dangers. For example, if you play a 'Steel Tire' card, your opponent cannot play a 'Studded Tire' card. There is only one safety card in each deck. Safety cards can be played at any time, but if you play them when you are affected by the corresponding danger card, you get a special scoring bonus. Finally, there are the jokers, which can be played like any other type of card.

The game is controlled with the mouse. First, click the 'Play' or 'Discard' button to select a card. When a card is played, there is a sound effect (and sometimes a shake of the screen).
