Description Kriegspiel
Kriegspiel means 'war game' in German, and that's exactly what it is. The game behaves like a traditional board game, only you don't need a friend to play, and the dice rolls and stat tables are handled by the computer.
The hexagonal landscape contains deserts, mountains, forests and swamps, as well as water and different weather conditions. Each terrain has its own movement factors, and each of your units has only a limited supply of movement points per round. Each army starts at its headquarters located at opposite ends of the map. Your army consists of three types of units: heavy tanks, light tanks and infantry. Tanks have high attack and defense factors, as well as many movement points, but lack some of the special abilities of soldiers, namely laying minefields and fast transport between occupied cities.
As you advance with your army across the map, the main objective is to capture the enemy headquarters. As the enemy will try to do the same, it is inevitable that your units will occupy adjacent hexes, in which case the battle resumes once the movement phase is over. The outcome of the battle is decided by the strength of the units involved, as well as the terrain they occupy and a certain amount of randomness due to the computer rolling 'dice'. After the battle phase comes the recruitment phase. New units are recruited from captured cities, and the number of captured cities decides whether you can recruit heavy tanks or just infantry.
