Description Legend of Lothian
Legend of Lothian is a public domain role-playing game heavily inspired by the Ultima series. It turns out that Lothian, king of Mercia, has been put under a spell that causes him to sleep indefinitely. As the king can no longer fulfill his duties, the land of Mercia is near ruin. The army is crumbling, so orcs roam the land freely, and trade cannot continue. One day, you, a poor shepherd, are contacted in a dream by a wizard who tells you that you must awaken the king and save the kingdom, giving you an enchanted stone. Thus, you embark on your quest.
LoL plays like a traditional Ultima, even (unconsciously) using an EGA-like palette and simple outlines for the characters. Control is via the keyboard, with plenty of single-key commands for trading, entering cities, entering combat, etc. You can also use the mouse to move around and perform actions via the icons at the bottom of the screen. You have a system of experience points, weapons and armor, and enemies drop gold if defeated. Combat is turn-based and gives you two options per turn: fight or flee. You have to manage your food supply, or you will starve quickly, as each move consumes a certain amount of food. Your health regenerates automatically, or you do it quickly by visiting a healer. The game progresses through a combination of interrogating characters in towns and exploring the map.
