Loyd

Loyd is a video game in the strategy genre developed by MicroLink and published by MicroLink originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on DOS.

Between 1987 and 1990, Bob Lancaster wrote 6 games that he released under the name 'MicroLink', a PC user group to which he belonged. All the games feature simple ASCII character graphics, but the excellent gameplay and variety of options make them stand the test of time. ML Loyd departs from the earlier Bob Lancaster games because it is not a dice game. Instead, it's a fun computer version of a sliding tile puzzle game - you know, the kind that has you cursing under your breath as you try to slide those numbered tiles one by one to line up in the correct order, from 1 to 15. The idea goes a bit further in ML Loyd: you're scored based on the number of moves you use to complete the puzzle. Each 'game' consists of four rounds, and you can watch the computer or adjust the speed of the game if you wish.

Overall, a nice text-only diversion, but not as fun or varied as other MicroLink games.
