Lyrane

Lyrane is a video game in the action genre developed by Glodia and published by Bullet-Proof Software, Inc. originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on PC-88.

In the future, humans began to build space stations, in which there were always special army units to ensure that nothing threatened humanity from the depths of the cosmos. One such space station was called Lyrane. However, the master computer controlling life support on Lyrane has gone haywire. The machines have taken over the station and its human inhabitants have been wiped out. Earth sends a lone battleship to Lyrane on what looks like a suicide mission....

Lyrane is an action game that differs in several ways from traditional arcade shooters. The view is top-down, but does not scroll vertically; player-controlled aircraft can move in any direction (even diagonally), stopping at will. Controls are character-based rather than camera-based, i.e. pressing the 'forward' button will always move the aircraft forward, regardless of its position on the screen. Combat is less frequent than in arcade shooters, and the player must explore the large levels to find ammunition, defeat enemies and advance to the next stage.
