Meteor Mission

Meteor Mission is a video game in the action genre and published by Acornsoft Limited originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on BBC Micro.

Meteor Mission is a variant of Lunar Rescue. The player controls an emergency space capsule that has to be used to rescue six astronauts stranded on an alien planet. The player starts in a mothership at the top of the screen from which he has to descend to the surface where the astronauts are waiting. But to achieve this he has to pass through a meteorite field and land on one of two platforms on the surface. The player can control the capsule left and right and use thrust to slow it down. In addition to the meteors, there is an alien chase ship that launches missiles at the player. Once the astronaut has entered the capsule, it's time to climb back up. Unlike the original arcade game, it is the same meteorite field that the player has to move through. Now the player can use a gun to shoot the meteorites. When all six astronauts have been rescued the player gets a bonus and moves on to the next level.
