MissionForce: CyberStorm

MissionForce: CyberStorm is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Dynamix, Inc. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc. originally released in 1996. It is currently playable on Windows.

Prometheus is believed to have been destroyed, but the cybrid threat is not over. As humans expanded into interstellar space, they encountered more cybrids, and they will exterminate them wherever they find them....

As the new Unitech commander, the player's job is to command the clone pilots called 'biodermas' and their HERCs to mine the various planets in the system, wipe out any cybrids they see, and ultimately wipe out the main cybrid nexus in the system. As the player advances in rank, they will have access to more power technology, HERCs and more valuable bioderms. Each planet has a different terrain that will affect battles, and bioderms will increase in experience and even perish in combat. The money earned by mining and killing cybrids allows you to buy new weapons, HERCs and bioderms. With hundreds of different weapons (projectile, laser, plasma, missile, indirect, ELF, special, etc.), plenty of other equipment to assemble, and over a dozen different HERC models to equip, the combinations are endless. The player will be able to hone his skills in many battles across three systems.

The game itself plays like Earthsiege, but with a 2D semi-set view and turn-based hex movement. Although the action can be a bit slow, the graphics are good, the commands are intuitive, and coordinating fire between all the different HERCs to maximize destruction is no easy task. It is even possible to administer some chemicals to the bioderms to maximize their effectiveness temporarily (at the cost of some genetic instability, which could be fatal if prolonged).

It was possible to go online and play against others in Sierra's WON.NET, when the service was still officially supported. Players could choose to fight against other corporations (with or without Cybrid present) or play other standard games. HERCs had ranked values, making it easy to balance the forces.
