Now You See It

Now You See It is a video game in the simulation genre developed by Advanced Software Products and published by GameTek, Inc. originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on DOS.

Now You See It is a decent computer version of the short-lived game show hosted by Chuck Henry, which was the show with which CBS replaced the wildly popular $100,000 Pyramid (in one of its worst decisions).

NYSI is best described as a 'word search' game in which the winner is determined in four rounds. In the first round, two new players compete for the chance to face the returning champion. They sit in front of a large board containing 4 lines and 14 letters on each line. A clue is read out (e. g. , 'What kind of cartoon animal coined the phrase 'What's up, Doc'?') and if a teammate comes up and finds the line on which the word is found, their partner (who has their back turned throughout the game) must turn around and find the answer (in this case, 'rabbit') and their position (the position of the first letter of the word) on the board. If they do this successfully, they earn points, depending on the position of the word on the board (for example, if the word was on line 2 and the first letter was in position 7, it would be 9 points = 2+7).

The game continues in a similar fashion for 2 more rounds to eliminate contestants. The winner of the third round goes on to play the solo game, appropriately named 'Solo Game', in which he or she must find 10 answers to the questions on the board in 60 seconds. The computer version of the game is fairly faithful to the TV show, although most of the questions are too easy, and the sub-par block graphics are a nuisance.

However, if you like the concept, you should give it a try, although the game (and the TV show itself) is not as much fun as more popular shows, such as Jeopardy or Classic Concentration. Those patient enough to memorize all the rules will probably enjoy it for a while, but will quickly forget it after a while.
