Panther

Panther is a video game in the action genre and published by Entertainment USA originally released in 1986. It is currently playable on Commodore 64, Atari 8-bit.

Panther is set in the human colony Xenon, which is attacked by aliens. The priority is to evacuate the people, but unfortunately not everyone succeeds. The player takes the role of a pilot flying the Panther airship to save the last remaining humans.

The game is a shooter with isometric view. The player can move left and right and adjust the height. Reverse gear is not available and the movement speed depends on the height: the higher, the faster. This is very important when the aliens attack. They always appear in batches and their shadows indicate their height. Now the player has the option to evade or counterattack. However, the Panther can only withstand five hits.

To evade people, the player has to land near them and wait until everyone is inside. The game consists of several levels and the last one has an additional game mechanic: the SAMs. These mean that the player cannot fly high enough to pass over the skyscrapers; he has to fly around them. After reaching the evacuation ship, the game goes back to the beginning; the goal is to reach a high score by saving many people.
