Description Penjamin
Penjamin places the player in the cramped, fast-moving world of a newspaper delivery boy whose morning route has become an obstacle course. Controlling Penjamin from a side-view perspective, the player must carry bundles of papers through a series of suburban streets, apartment blocks, and busy commercial districts before the deadline shown at the top of the screen. Each stage presents a fixed route filled with gates, stairways, parked vehicles, fences, and impatient customers. The objective is not simply to reach the end, but to deliver the correct paper to every marked address while preserving enough time and energy to complete the round.
Penjamin is moved with the SMC-777 keyboard or compatible joystick, with separate controls for walking, jumping, and throwing. Papers may be placed directly into mail slots at close range or tossed across gardens and over low walls. Accurate deliveries increase the day’s earnings, while missed papers, broken windows, and damaged bundles reduce the final payment. The route is complicated by dogs, sprinklers, bicycles, construction equipment, and passing traffic. Some hazards follow a regular pattern, allowing careful players to learn the safest timing, while others react to Penjamin’s position and force quick decisions. A limited supply of replacement papers is available, but careless use can leave entire buildings unserved.
The game is divided into several districts, each with its own arrangement of streets and delivery conditions. Residential areas emphasize precision and route planning, while the downtown stages introduce elevators, escalators, service corridors, and crowds of pedestrians. Later rounds add evening deliveries, narrow alleys, and rival carriers who attempt to scatter Penjamin’s newspapers. Bonus screens appear after selected stages, challenging the player to throw papers through moving windows or collect tossed coins without dropping the remaining bundle. Success improves Penjamin’s daily score and provides additional time for the next route.
Bright, sharply defined graphics give the SMC-777 version a lively arcade appearance. Penjamin is shown as a small, animated figure with a cap, shoulder bag, and rapidly moving legs, while the streets are built from colorful blocks of brick, concrete, hedges, shop signs, and painted road markings. The scrolling display advances in short sections as the player progresses, revealing new hazards and delivery points just beyond the edge of the screen. Address markers flash when a customer is waiting, and a large route panel records completed deliveries, penalties, remaining papers, and the approaching deadline.
The audio combines a brisk repeating melody with short electronic effects for footsteps, jumps, thrown papers, and successful deliveries. A sharper warning tone sounds when time is running low, and a clattering burst accompanies collisions or spoiled newspapers. The action is straightforward to begin but demands increasingly exact timing, especially when several customers are grouped around a single hazard. With its mixture of route management, quick reflexes, and comic street-level action, Penjamin turns an ordinary morning paper round into a demanding test of speed and accuracy.
