Pirates in Hyperspace

Pirates in Hyperspace is a video game in the action genre and published by Alternative Software Ltd. originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

You are a space pirate and have planned to board 21 cargo ships to steal precious substances. Each attempt to board a cargo ship is divided into three stages and each stage must be completed to move on to the next. Once you have finished with a freighter, you move on to the next one. Before the game starts, you can choose from three ships to pilot.

First stage: This is a top-down shooter with constant scrolling of the screen. At first you scroll vertically across the screen before the game switches to scrolling diagonally to the right, then to the left and then back to scrolling upwards at various speeds. You must either shoot with your gun or avoid various crafts and objects, and if you touch one you lose one of five lives. Every now and then a star will pass by which, if you collect it, will replenish your ammunition, which has a limited amount. Collect three stars and you will pass to the second phase.

Second stage. You have to keep destroying the cargo ship seen from above in a single screen. While you keep destroying the ship, you must avoid the bullets of the ship that follow you around the screen. If you destroy the ship enough times, you will move on to the third stage.

Third stage: You have now boarded the cargo ship and must scour it for disks containing a code that you must enter into a computer to open the doors. You must avoid or shoot the guards and if you touch the sides you lose a life and move on to Stage One for the next ship. The stage is a flick screen viewed from above.
