Shade is a text adventure game that takes place in a single room, the protagonist's ramshackle apartment, as you prepare for a visit to the Death Valley Om Festival, similar to Burning Man, in the desert. The closer you get to preparing to leave for the airport, the more problems present themselves to you: mundane ones at first, like thirst and misplaced plane tickets, and then, grain by grain, a whole sandbox of more surreal ones that suggest that, as in the movie Jacob's Ladder, all is not what it seems.
With your only inert companions, a revealing desert guidebook, a helpful to-do list, and an esoteric radio tuned to what must be a campus station, you must plumb the hallucinatory depths of a decaying brain's rationalizations about its latest perceptions and determine whether you will take a stand or be taken by the sand.
