Striker '95

Striker '95 is a video game in the sports genre developed by Rage Software Ltd. and published by Time Warner Interactive Ltd. originally released in 1995. It is currently playable on DOS.

Striker '95 is an above average soccer game that features some of the best graphics of its time.

Like Gremlin's Actua Soccer, Striker '95 features a true 3D environment, with rotoscoped player animations for realistic movements. Different stadiums with a variety of playing surfaces are included. The game features more than 5,000 players, each with their own statistics, from more than 50 national and international teams. However, player stats don't seem to affect gameplay much, just some very slight effects. For example, players with a low stamina level will tire faster, so they will run slower than others.

The gameplay is decent, although the computer AI leaves much to be desired: sometimes the computer sends all its players on offense, leaving no one to score my deadly forward. This makes most matches too easy. The stadium atmosphere is good, as it is represented with a wide range of sounds, from cheers to songs and noises sampled directly from real matches. The CD-ROM version (not the one here, unfortunately) has good commentary by Andy Gray (a famous UK commentator) in different languages (English, French and German).

Overall, an above-average soccer game that pays much more attention to graphics than to gameplay. If you like simple soccer games with good graphics, this one may fit, although the controls take some getting used to.
