The Dungeons

The Dungeons is a video game in the adventure genre and published by Anirog Software Ltd. originally released in 1983. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

The Dungeons is an adventure game with some RPG elements seen from a first person perspective as you explore The Dungeons looking for a chest that contains the secret of The Dungeons belonging to a red dragon. Before starting the quest you are first shown your ability with various attributes being strength, wisdom, intellect, constitution and dexterity, each having a number between 4 and 20. You then select whether you are a fighter or a mage before being able to choose the equipment you can buy with your limited amount of gold coins. Items you can buy include a sword, a lantern, spells and armor. Once you have chosen and purchased, enter the dungeon.

In each room of the dungeon, you can view the exits and items within the room and type a letter to tell the computer your next action. This can include moving in a certain direction, saying spells, opening objects and many other things. Creatures also appear and you can attack them before they attack you and weaken or kill you. You always look in each room in the direction you are moving, so, for example, north may be in a different direction than above. As you get more gold coins, you can go back to the first room to buy more equipment while trying to find the chest.
