M. Evan Brooks' review says it all about Universe 1: 'A detailed simulation of space exploration and commerce. Multifaceted and very deep, its gameplay suffered from difficult-to-interpret documentation as well as an unforgiving gameplay system. Build your own ship to spec, but one wrong move could waste hours of pre-game play. Still, it was one of the early classics. Unfortunately for armchair commanders, Universe 2 and 3 were more like RPGs and strategy played less of a role, but they were still great games.
