The game is set in the distant future, where Earth has been struck by a mysterious plague that has decimated the population. The remaining humans have retreated underground, living in giant underground cities ruled by a tyrannical organization known as The Corporation. The player takes on the role of a rebel fighter who has been tasked with overthrowing The Corporation and freeing humanity from its oppressive rule.

At its core, The Force is an adventure game with a heavy emphasis on puzzle solving. The game is divided into different stages or "sectors" that the player must navigate through. Each sector presents a series of challenges and puzzles that must be solved in order to progress to the next sector. These puzzles range from decrypting codes and navigating through maze-like environments to finding hidden objects and using them to unlock doors or disable security systems.

One of the unique features of The Force is its use of a 3D first-person perspective. This was a relatively new concept at the time of its release and was not commonly seen in games.
