Tiger Woods PGA Tour is a video game in the sports genre and published by Electronic Arts Ltd. originally released in 2008. It is currently playable on iPod Classic.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour brings the professional golf experience to the iPod Classic in a compact format designed for play with the Click Wheel. Players guide Tiger Woods through a selection of challenging courses, competing against computer-controlled golfers or pursuing a personal best over a complete round. The game presents the essential elements of tournament golf—club selection, shot placement, hazards, putting and score management—while adapting them to the iPod’s simple controls and portable screen.
Before each shot, the player chooses a club according to distance, lie and course conditions, then adjusts the direction of the ball with the Click Wheel. A swing meter determines the force and accuracy of the stroke, requiring careful timing to produce a straight drive or controlled approach. Shots can be shaped to work around trees, bunkers and water, while the ball’s position on the fairway or green influences the available options. On the putting surface, reading the break and judging the required strength become particularly important, with a poorly measured putt capable of turning a promising hole into a costly one.
The courses are arranged with a mixture of open fairways, narrow landing areas and carefully placed hazards. Tee shots reward distance, but accurate play is often the safer route, especially when the fairway is bordered by rough or guarded by sand and water. Par, birdie and eagle opportunities are balanced by difficult approaches and demanding greens. Players can concentrate on lowering their score, mastering individual holes or completing a full round while maintaining consistency from the opening drive to the final putt.
Visual presentation is clear and functional, using colorful overhead course views and compact character animations to show the progress of each shot. The golfer, flagstick, ball and surrounding hazards are easy to identify on the iPod display, while menus provide quick access to clubs, aiming controls and score information. The interface keeps the action moving without overwhelming the small screen, and the Click Wheel allows adjustments to be made quickly between strokes.
Audio supplies the atmosphere of a televised golf event with restrained musical cues, shot effects and the crisp sound of the club striking the ball. Successful shots receive satisfying feedback, while hazards and missed putts are marked by sharper, more discouraging effects. Short sessions make the game suitable for a quick round during travel or a longer attempt at a low score. With its straightforward controls, strategic club selection and emphasis on precision, Tiger Woods PGA Tour offers a focused version of professional golf built specifically for portable play.
