Tommy's Spades

Tommy's Spades is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Tommy's Toys and published by Tommy's Toys originally released in 1988. It is currently playable on DOS.

Tommy's Spades is a shareware card game. In real life it is a game for four players playing in teams of two, in this implementation it is a single player game with the computer playing both the player's partner and the two opposing players.

The game is played with a standard deck of fifty-two cards, of which the two of diamonds and the two of clubs have been replaced by jokers. In short, it is a trick-taking game in which spades are always trumps. Players bet individually on the number of tricks, called books in this game, that they will take. If the player gets the number of tricks he has bid, points are scored for each trick taken and for each excess trick; if he does not get the number of tricks he has bid, penalty points are awarded. A notable feature of this game occurs during dealing, where up to three rounds can be dealt within a face-up hand.

The game is controlled entirely with the keyboard. It has a demo mode, an open hand mode, basic sound effects and command line switches to start the game with the sound off and to force a color or monochrome display.
