Veigues: Tactical Gladiator

Veigues: Tactical Gladiator is a video game in the action genre developed by Game Arts Co., Ltd. and published by Game Arts Co., Ltd. originally released in 1988. It is currently playable on PC-88.

In the year 2324, Earth is not in good shape: alien forces have been attacking the planet for three years. But now the military has unleashed its secret weapon, the Veigues combat robots, to put an end to this threat. The player controls one of these robots through ten stages in which you want to defeat a bunch of aliens and a big boss.

This is a traditional 'run and gun' game in which the player dodges enemy attacks and uses a variety of weapons that are built into the robot's body parts. It is also possible to hover for a short period of time, but this costs energy which is displayed in one of two automatically regenerating status bars at the bottom of the screen. The other shows the status of the protective shields, which decrease with enemy hits. If depleted, the robot loses a limb and associated systems, e. g. , if the head disappears, the radar showing the direction of incoming attacks goes with it. If all limbs are lost, the game ends. Defeating enemies earns points that can be used to upgrade the robot's abilities between levels.
