Video Meanies

Video Meanies is a video game in the action genre developed by Mr Chip Software and published by Mastertronic Ltd. originally released in 1986. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

A millionaire has decided to set up a video arcade in a castle full of baddies, and he lets his one maintenance droid roam the building each day and turn on the fifteen video machines, ready for the day's customers. Some machines are outdoors, while others are in rooms with locked doors. Keys are scattered around the arcade, many of them are also in rooms that are locked. It is up to the robot to find the key of the same color. After getting the keys, the door will unlock so the droid can get to the key or video machine.

When the robot comes in contact with a machine, it gives it the option to gamble for an extra life or its death. The droid can also decline the gamble option, whereupon the machine is activated and a bonus is awarded, depending on how much energy the droid has left.

Each room is filled with assorted hazards, including meanies that regenerate when shot, and laser beams and sliding blocks to avoid. From the first room the droid enters, its energy is quickly depleted, meaning the droid has to find a machine as quickly as possible.
