Description WarTorn
WarTorn is a 3D real-time strategy game with modern units.
In a particularly twisted backstory, the ruling elites of the future (2999) rediscover the wargames of the distant past (Ancient Rome) as a model for sports-type wars set in the not-so-distant past (2000), which for us is the present.
This was the easy part of WarTorn. The cynical setting of controlled warfare in giant sports stadiums serves as the backdrop for a 3D real-time strategy game that pits up to eight armies against each other in a fairly complex build-and-burst system.
The economic system, for example, has its own flowchart in the manual, describing the interrelationship of no less than eight resources, four of which must be gathered on the map. The army consists of land, air and sea units that can be built individually from pieces. The tactics system comes with its own formation editor and attack route planner. The behavior of each unit can be adjusted with ten different commands.
However, most of this is optional. Players can choose between strategy games (full war with base building) and skirmishes (mini-base-less games with up to 20 units selected per side). There is no campaign or storyline, only single-player games in four different modes (deathmatch, capture the flag, hunter hunted and turn-based) or five-level tournaments that move the player up the global ladder.
Despite the competitive nature of the game, there is no multiplayer mode.
