X-15 Alpha Mission

X-15 Alpha Mission is a video game in the action genre and published by Activision (UK) Limited originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

America is being hijacked by terrorists, so you are called in to stop them. You take control of an X-15 space plane and must fly through six different stages to destroy the terrorists' orbiting space station.

You start the game on the runway where you have to take off. After a successful takeoff you have to fly through three stages in the earth's atmosphere shooting and dodging, helicopters, jets and missiles. Try not to take too much damage. In space you have to shoot at the satellites to be able to see the space station.

When you can see the space you place your reticle over it, and you get a prompt to enter a code. You remember the code the President gave you at the beginning, don't you? If you enter the code successfully, you will be able to launch an excursion module that must pass through an asteroid belt. Once through the asteroid belt you can land on the station. After landing you release some Remote Control Robots that have to be controlled to find the weapon systems. Connect your robots to a weapon and it will self-destruct by destroying the weapon. Once all the weapons are destroyed, the last robot finds the Central Power System which it destroys, destroying the Station.

The game looks like a flight simulator. You watch from your cockpit through a window with all your instruments surrounding the window. After takeoff, a reticle appears allowing you to fire your weapon by pressing the fire button. The enemy is displayed as 3D vector graphics. You can also steer the plane left and right by moving the crosshairs to the edge of the window. The higher you go, the darker the sky turns black, indicating that you are in space. The space station is a blue rotating object.
