Zox 2099 is a video game in the action genre developed by Loriciels and published by Loriciels originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Amstrad CPC.
Zox 2099 features the rescue mission of an intergalactic hero who heads to the planet Hullm to free four hostages from the clutches of the asteroid Zox.
The game combines two game modes. One is an arcade game in which the player shoots spaceships, and the other is a maze crawling game. First, the player must fight in space, destroying all enemy ships he encounters and reaching a huge asteroid. To do this, he has to shoot enemy ships and missiles while directing them in the right direction. If your ship is damaged, the game ends.
After reaching the asteroid, the player enters a labyrinthine fortress consisting of 20 rooms. Here, the player moves from room to room, looking for a transition point. He has to examine the walls of each room and move pieces of the walls to find the secret passages. He can also flip some switches to open doors or remove electrical barriers. Enemies guard the corridor and you have to avoid them or neutralize them for a certain time with your weapon. When the enemy guards reach the player, he is moved to the beginning of the maze. There are four hostages.
Once all hostages are found, the player must fly back to the home planet in the same spaceship shooter game.
