In Living Books' Arthur's Reading Race, the main character, Arthur, challenges his little sister D.W. to read 10 words. If she can read that many words, he'll buy her an ice cream. They travel around town along with Arthur's dog, Pal, finding all sorts of words while having fun along the way. Like other Living Books series, the title features pages drawn in a brightly colored cartoon style with animations.
Arthur's Reading Race has other mini-games within the pages for children to explore. They can match words with pictures and, in a board game race, advance their pawn based on the number of letters in a word. There is an I-Spy game, in which objects are described and the player must find them in the picture. Many objects hidden within the pages are waiting to be found by clicking on them. You can also click on any of the words in the story and hear them repeated to encourage reading skills.
