Drain Storm is a classic Windows game that first rolled out in 1997. Initially, players were tasked to manipulate pipes in order to collect and clear all the draining water on the play area, with each subsequent stage delivering an increase in complexity. Randomly placed bombs, rocks and barriers obstruct the paths in each stage, rendering the player's course of action not only strategically important, but also requiring quick reflexes to avoid traps and bombs.
The game successfully captures the difficult balance between surprise elements of challenge and the satisfaction of seeing it through. Four archetypal characters give each stage a distinct depth and personality. The Earth Witch who must protect the environment and forest creatures Joe the revenge seeking, Machine Man who's out to restore electricity, and Doctor, a genius professor who is the last line of defense hoping to save humanity.
