Dune IV

Dune IV is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Vladislav Demjanišin originally released in 2004. It is currently playable on Windows.

The 2004 Windows game Dune IV is the fourth instalment of the Dune series based on the novels of Frank Herbert and greatly expanding on the events of the novels. Set in the distant future in the fictional land of Arrakis - also known as Dune - players must take control of a faction devoted to controlling the spice harvest of Arrakis. Players must utilise the in-game mechanics to set up production and military structures, and seize enemies structures to help gain the economic and military edge.

The game can be played as a single-player, but is best enjoyed through the multiplayer mode which allows up to 8 players to compete for control of Arrakis. Players can either team up to work together or play against each other in a variety of different scenarios.

Players must both build and fight for their faction, unlocking new secrets and events from the original novels as they do. Dune IV offers a varied and interesting form of strategy gaming across a number of different levels. Players must decide how best to manage resources, decorate their faction’s home base, and complete particular tasks to gain the upper hand.

Combat in Dune IV stands out, offering a diverse range of tactics. Players can choose a variety of different units and vehicles to use in battle - ranging from the infantry-level Cobra, to the gigantic and powerful Harvester - allowing greater levels of tactical finesse in battle that was not seen in prior instalments of the series.

The environmental effects are also a major plus; from sandworms to sandstorms, to the intense weather conditions, the natural environment plays a key role in domination of Arrakis. Exploiting these conditions can greatly improve how players approach individual scenarios, and Dune IV allows for more strategic opportunities than before.

Dune IV is a great strategy game that is easy to pick up and play with its smooth controls and intuitive UI. Not only is the game an enjoyable experience, but it also provides a great insight into the events of Frank Herbert’s novels. It’s easy to see why it remains a popular classic amongst fans of the series.
