Locomotion

Locomotion is a video game in the action genre and published by Commodore Business Machines (UK) Ltd. originally released in 1985. It is currently playable on Commodore 64, Commodore 16, Plus/4.

Locomotion is a sliding screen game in which you take control of a locomotive from the Wild West days to collect gold trucks and deliver them to the bank. The game has two modes and they are Adventure or Arcade and both have four difficulty levels. In Adventure you can speed up or slow down the locomotive along the tracks and also control the track points ahead to switch to new tracks. As you explore the area, you will come across trucks containing various items in addition to gold, such as cattle, fuel and a sheriff. To hitch a truck, you must reverse at 20 mph or less and you will automatically pick up the truck. You can also unhook any truck when you stop.

In some sections of the track there are broken parts and you have to unhook the right truck next to the broken part to repair it. Mexican bandits are in the area and if you stand next to them for a few seconds they will steal your gold, unless you have a truck with a sheriff in it. Runaway trains run along the tracks driven by the ghosts of the previous conductors looking to keep the gold for themselves. To keep the train moving you have to keep your fuel and water levels up by stopping at fuel tanks or water towers. If you crash, hit a ghost train or run out of fuel or water, you lose one of your five lives.

In Arcade mode you have no control over the speed of the locomotive and you have to survive as long as possible by changing points to move to new tracks. If you crash, it's game over.
