Description Paperboy

When Atari launched their 8-bit console in 1983, they released a plethora of titles that truly defined the generation. One of those classics was Paperboy, a side-scrolling uniquely addictive game that captivated players from day one.

Developed by Atari Games Division for the console, players assume the role of a paperboy riding his trusty bicycle around fictional Sunnyvale, intent on delivering newspapers to subscribers while avoiding obstacles. The goal is to successfully deliver an entire week's issue of the paper without breach of contract before time runs out.

Players navigate the suburban terrain while avoiding cars, dogs, runaway tires, skateboarders, brick tossing criminals, construction workers, and other wild and crazy hazards. If you take a risky move too far, then it's "Game Over" for you! Since the game is side-scrolling, it was a challenge to figure out the exact time to make turns onto various streets to avoid excerpts like trashing the lawns of non-subscribers and trying not to crash into a paperstop.

The game has multiple difficulty levels, awarding players extra lives and penalizing them for destroying customers' windows, damaging lawns, missing mailboxes, or falling off the motorcycle. The title features old school graphics embellished with an enjoyable soundtrack of jazzy tunes. It also contains a two-player mode allowing two friends to try their luck in a race to the finish line as they deliver papers.

Adding to the replayability of the game, players who achieved higher scores were able to monitor their own progress via the high-score table. Additionally, two sequels were released in 1988 and 1990. Paperboy truly stands out as a classic of the 8-bit era. It keeps players engaged and entertained for countless hours attempting to survive the hazards of the suburban street.
