Riot Zone is a video game in the action genre developed by Westone Co., Ltd. and published by Hudson Soft Company, Ltd. originally released in 1993. It is currently playable on TurboGrafx CD.

The 1993 TurboGrafx CD video game, Riot Zone, put a unique spin on the classic shoot'em up genre of games. Here, players the role of government agents sent to eliminate an organized terrorist group known as Desert Gedon. Armed with an array of powerful weapons, it is up to the player to take down a relentless array of enemies throughout 5 stages, all requiring a deft combination of strategy and skill to overcome.

Riot Zone wastes no time introducing the player to its distinct style and atmosphere. Along with arresting 8-bit pixel art and sharp collage-style backgrounds, Riot Zone is packed with a pulsating soundtrack that keeps the pulse-pounding action heated throughout. Its stages, varying between cities, forests, interiors, and more, are sprawling playgrounds of carnage filled with a steady stream of Gedon terrorists.

Players are given an array of sophisticated firearms to wreck havoc, such as a machine gun, a flame thrower, and even a rocket launcher to deal out extra bombardment. Additionally, Riot Zone features power-ups that give off useful buffs to the player’s arsenal, such as a forced attack or concussion bombs, ensuring nobody is safe from the government agents' retaliation. That being said, these weapons are limited in ammunition, and players must carefully decide when to use them.

Despite its age, Riot Zone is still a great and entertaining game to experience. In addition to being incredibly replayable thanks to its fantastic soundtrack and thrilling visuals, its tight controls and smart level design keep it from becoming stale. While its visuals and sound are dated, the game’s flavor and charm come alive with each playthrough, still providing a great and exhilarating experience to shoot'em up fans.
