Rommel 3-D is a variant of Battlezone. The player controls a tank from a first-person perspective and can move freely around a flat environment in which various geometric objects act as obstacles. The objective of the game is to score points by shooting tanks that appear on the battlefield one at a time. There are two types of tanks: dumb tanks, which are worth 1. 000 points, and smart tanks, which are worth 1. 500 points. In addition, there are planes that try to collide with the player and are worth 1. 300 points. Smart tanks move faster and have the same level of maneuverability as the player. To help the player find the enemies, a radar shows their positions. The player starts with three lives and one is lost when hit by an enemy. A new tank is obtained for every 10,000 points earned up to 100,000 points and every 20,000 points thereafter.
