Description VanSlug: X Mission
In VanSlug: X Mission the player takes control of the titular hero, a futuristic detective named Van Slug whose hobby is donning his protective gear and ridding the city and adjacent rural areas of monsters. In this platform shooter, the player guides Van Slug through fairly expansive levels populated by ground and flying enemies.
The hero's default weapon, with unlimited ammunition, can be changed to more powerful ones (but with limited ammunition) by choosing the corresponding power-up. Other power-ups include shields that further protect the hero from attacks, dynamite and items that restore health. At the end of each stage, Van Slug has to face a boss.
Although a bar titled 'EXP' is displayed next to the protagonist's health and special ammo meters, it is never filled and remains empty throughout the game.
