Halley Wars

Halley Wars is a video game in the action genre developed by Taito Corporation and published by Taito Corporation originally released in 1991. It is currently playable on Game Gear.

We are in the middle of the 21st century. Lord Halley's armies are launching attacks against planet Earth. You are the last chance for Earth, piloting a ship specially developed to take on these hordes. You must fight your way through their defenses to the final objective, the alien base - the final battle is about to begin!

Halley Wars is a vertical scrolling shooter, and is a sequel to the arcade game Halley's Comet. The game features 6 stages set in space locations such as on planets or in asteroid fields. There are end-of-level bosses at the end of each stage, each with their own weaknesses. There are power-ups that can be picked up along the way when you shoot at certain asteroids or satellites. These improve weapon power, speed and add explosive capsules and shields.

The game is notable for the presence of comets that you have to destroy during your journey. Every comet and ship you don't shoot reaches the ground and does some damage there. Comets do more damage than enemy ships. If the damage level of the Earth reaches 100%, the game ends. For every 2000 points you score, 1% of the Earth damage is repaired.
